How We Help

Pain, stiffness and restricted movement can affect almost every part of life, from work and sleep to exercise, family activities and everyday tasks. At My Chiropractor Mackay City, we assess and manage a range of musculoskeletal conditions involving the spine, joints, muscles and nerves, taking the time to understand your symptoms, health history, daily activities and goals rather than applying the same treatment to everyone. Depending on your individual needs, care may include chiropractic treatment, spinal decompression, shockwave therapy, dry needling and tailored rehabilitation. If we don't believe our services are right for you, we'll explain why and recommend another provider.

Back Pain & Stiffness

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit our Mackay clinic. It can develop gradually or start suddenly after lifting, sport, physical work, prolonged sitting or an awkward movement, and may feel like a dull ache, stiffness or sharp, restrictive discomfort. It's often linked to muscular strain, restricted joint movement, changes within the spinal discs, or a combination of factors, with previous injuries and general health also playing a part. We begin with a thorough history and physical assessment to understand what may be contributing to your pain, with care that may include chiropractic treatment, spinal decompression, activity advice and tailored exercises to rebuild strength and confidence.

Sciatica & Nerve-Related Pain

Sciatica describes pain that travels from the lower back or buttock into the leg, often sharp, burning or electric, and sometimes accompanied by tingling, numbness or weakness. Symptoms can worsen with sitting, bending, coughing or certain movements, and vary from person to person. They can occur when a nerve in the lower spine becomes irritated or compressed, with a disc bulge one possible cause among several. Our chiropractors carry out a thorough physical and neurological assessment to help identify the likely source of your symptoms. Depending on the findings, care may include chiropractic treatment, spinal decompression, movement advice and progressive rehabilitation, with referral for imaging where needed.

Disc Bulges & Disc-Related Pain

The discs between the spinal bones help distribute load and allow the spine to move. Over time, or after an injury, a disc may develop changes such as a bulge, protrusion or herniation. These changes don't always cause pain and are sometimes seen on scans in people with no symptoms at all. When a disc becomes irritated or affects a nearby nerve, it may contribute to back or neck pain, or symptoms extending into an arm or leg. We look at your symptoms, examination findings and any available imaging together, rather than relying on a scan alone. For suitable patients, care may include Spine MT Core spinal decompression, careful chiropractic treatment and graded rehabilitation.

Neck Pain & Stiffness

Neck pain can begin suddenly or build gradually through repeated strain, with long periods at a computer, physical work, driving, an injury, sleeping position or stress-related tension all potential contributors. Symptoms often include stiffness, difficulty turning the head, and discomfort extending into the shoulders or upper back, sometimes reaching into an arm or presenting with tingling or numbness that needs careful assessment. We assess movement through the neck and upper back, muscular function and any signs of nerve involvement, then tailor your care accordingly. This may include gentle chiropractic techniques, dry needling, postural or ergonomic advice and exercises to support movement and recovery.

Headaches Associated With Neck Dysfunction

Headaches can stem from many causes, and some are linked to restricted movement, irritation or muscular tension in the neck and upper back. Known as cervicogenic headaches, these often begin at the base of the skull before extending towards the forehead, temple or behind the eye, and may come with neck stiffness or symptoms aggravated by prolonged sitting, physical work or certain head positions. Not every headache or migraine originates from the neck, though, which is why assessment matters. Our chiropractors will check whether neck dysfunction may be contributing to your symptoms, with care that may include chiropractic treatment, dry needling, movement advice and rehabilitation, or referral to your GP where appropriate.

Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is a highly mobile, complex area involving several joints, muscles and tendons, and pain may follow an injury, repetitive lifting, sport, physical work or a gradual change in tendon capacity. In some cases, pain felt around the shoulder actually originates from the neck. Shoulder problems can make it difficult to reach overhead, lift, dress, exercise or sleep comfortably, and the location of pain alone doesn't always reveal which structure is involved, making individual assessment essential. We examine the shoulder alongside the neck, upper back and movement patterns, with management that may include chiropractic care, dry needling, shockwave therapy for persistent tendon conditions and a tailored strengthening or mobility program.

Hip & Knee Pain

Hip and knee pain can affect walking, climbing stairs, exercise, work and simply getting in or out of a chair. Symptoms may come from the joint itself, surrounding muscles and tendons, a past injury, or changes in how load moves through the lower body. Because the hip, knee, ankle and foot all work together, the painful area isn't always the only one that needs assessing. Strength, mobility, footwear, activity levels and movement patterns can all play a role. We assess how the joints and muscles of the lower body function together, with care that may include chiropractic treatment, shockwave therapy for suitable tendon problems, activity advice and exercises to build strength, mobility and control.

Sports & Overuse Injuries

Sports injuries can happen suddenly, such as during a fall, awkward landing or rapid change of direction, or develop gradually when a muscle, tendon or joint is repeatedly loaded without enough time to recover. We commonly see sprains, muscle strains, joint pain and persistent tendon complaints, not just in competitive athletes, but in weekend runners, gym-goers, gardeners and anyone whose work involves repetitive or physical tasks. Following an assessment, we build a plan based on your injury type, current capacity and the activities you want to return to. Care may include chiropractic treatment, dry needling, shockwave therapy and progressive rehabilitation to help you rebuild movement, strength and confidence safely.

Plantar Fasciitis & Persistent Tendon Pain

Plantar fasciitis commonly causes pain underneath the heel or through the arch of the foot, often worse during the first few steps after getting out of bed or standing following rest, and it may flare up with prolonged standing, walking, running or changes in footwear and activity. We also see persistent tendon complaints affecting areas like the Achilles, elbow, shoulder and knee, which often develop when demands on a tendon exceed its current capacity and can take time to settle. Following an assessment, management may include shockwave therapy, activity and loading advice, exercises to gradually build tendon capacity, and consideration of relevant footwear or biomechanics.

General Mobility & Age-Related Stiffness

Changes in strength, joint mobility and balance can make everyday activities harder as we get older, with stiffness affecting getting out of bed, rising from a chair, walking comfortably, gardening or keeping up with children and grandchildren. Age itself is not a diagnosis, and treatment should never be based on age alone. We consider your health history, bone health, current abilities and personal goals when deciding whether care is appropriate. Where suitable, management may include gentle chiropractic techniques, mobility exercises and an individual rehabilitation program, all aimed at supporting comfortable movement and helping you stay as active and independent as possible.

Not Sure Which Category Fits?

Pain isn't always straightforward, and similar symptoms can have very different causes, so you don't need to diagnose yourself or decide on treatment before booking. Your first appointment includes a detailed history and an appropriate physical assessment, and we'll explain what we find, talk through your options and recommend care only where we believe it's suitable. If your symptoms require imaging, medical investigation or care outside our scope of practice, we'll point you towards the right next step.
