The Power Of Sound Waves With Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a new treatment option that’s being used to treat a range of musculoskeletal pain conditions. It's a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that uses sound waves to stimulate the healing process in the body. Using sound waves to stimulate the healing process is not a new concept, but it’s only recently that this therapy has been used to treat musculoskeletal pain conditions.
At My Chiropractor Mackay City, our team are trained in using this new therapy to help our patients on their road to recovery. When you visit us for an assessment, we'll be able to determine whether you would benefit from shockwave therapy and can include it as a stand-alone service or part of a chiropractic treatment plan.

How Shockwave Therapy Works
Firstly, we'll need to conduct an assessment to work out whether shockwave therapy is the correct treatment for your condition. If so, we'll get to work targeting the source of your pain.
To begin the therapy, a gel is applied to the skin over the affected area—this is to help reduce any discomfort that may be caused by the sound waves. A hand-held device is then used to deliver sound waves into your body; they'll pass through the skin and target the area of pain. The sound waves will stimulate your healing process by increasing blood flow to the area and also breaking down scar tissue.
Each session usually lasts for between 5-10 minutes. The number of sessions you'll need will depend on your individual condition, but most patients see a significant improvement after just 3-4 sessions.
